The Work Number, managed by the TALX Corporation (a locally owned and operated company), provides automated employment and income verification services for our faculty and staff.

Procedure when verification requests are received by:

Mail or Fax

  • Mail or fax back the incomplete verification request along with a copy of the Verifier Information Sheet to inform the verifier that Washington University uses The Work Number to provide automated employment and income verifications on our employees. Note: All Social Services verifications should be performed by WashU’s Payroll Department.
  • Do NOT perform any employment or income verifications via the phone, mail or fax. In the event that a verifier refuses to use this fee service, ask them to contact TALX at verifierhelp@talx.com. TALX will respond within 24 hours.

Phone or Voice Message

  • Inform the verifier that Washington University uses The Work Number to provide automated employment and income verifications on our employees. Note: All Social Services verifications should be performed by WashU’s Payroll Department.

Please note: Washington University will periodically receive calls to question the verification provided by TALX. Due to the unique employment relationships of some of our employees, data provided by WashU to TALX will sometimes be incomplete. In these situations, it is appropriate to answer the verifiers’ questions.

Who can use The Work Number service? Who is considered a verifier?

  • Any lending institution, property manager or other business that needs to verify employment or income of an employee.

What is considered Social Services verification?   

  • Social Services verifications are used for Food Stamps, TANF, Medicaid, Child Support, WIC, Social Security, etc.
